Although born in Florida, I have made Austin home since 1993 when I came to visit my brother’s family. I have lived in Florida, Alabama, and Beaumont, Texas in my younger years. After completing the University of Florida’s Undergraduate Honor’s Program with a BS in Zoology, I attended UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1991.
My parents taught me the value of hard work, commitment to education, and The Golden Rule. I am the youngest of three children (which I now enjoy pointing out to my siblings). My brother is a graduate of UT’s College of Law. My sister is a pediatrician on staff with UF’s College of Medicine, having remained there since her graduation (poor thing started her education at FSU but saw the light and went to Medical School at THE University of Florida. I firmly believe my patients are much cuter than hers but she continues to disagree.
I spent my first several years in Austin as a relief Veterinarian. During this time I not only met my wonderful Office Manager and friend, Sharon Acker and her husband, Daniel, but I was also exposed to many different techniques and philosophies. I enjoyed those years but I missed being able to follow my patients throughout their lifetimes but I also wanted to provide a gentle and reassuring environment for those patients. In May of 1999 I opened Manor Veterinary Hospital in order to provide both high quality medicine and surgery focusing specifically on cats and dogs, and also a calm and compassionate environment to support and encourage healing.
I currently work to spoil four cats at home and four more at MVH. All are rescues of one kind or another. I also had a rescue pug whom could often be heard snorting outside whichever exam room I was being used. Sadly my pug, Max, who loved coming with me to work daily and who had many client friends, succumbed to intestinal cancer in January of 2015. Without a doubt he made me a better person and a better Veterinarian. Our pets certainly expand our individual worlds and add unconditional love to every day we are blessed to have with them. It is an honor and a pleasure for me to be a part of the lives of many peoples’ beloved furry family members.
