Dr Carter is originally from Florida but has lived in Austin since 1993 after coming for a “visit”. After earning her BS in Zoology in the undergraduate honors program at the University of Florida, she then received her DVM at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. She opened Manor Veterinary Hospital in 1999 when HWY 290 was two lanes in each direction and there was no traffic.

Dr Carter opened MVH so she could ensure her patients were being treated in the most compassionate and stress free way possible while still providing advanced and comprehensive care. A huge bonus has been the joy of bringing her dogs to work daily and adopting some wonderful clinic cats over the years.  Her parents may have joked that she started the clinic just to adopt more cats, but Dr. Carter insists that was an unintended perk.

Her family includes two dogs, Sally and Timmy, as well as two handsome cats, Charlie and Joey. All of her pets came through MVH except Charlie (Charles when he’s in trouble and Chuckie if he’s being creepy) who showed up under her bird feeders. The bird population appreciated Charlie being turned into a house cat.

When not working, she enjoys catching live music, enjoying Tex-Mex dinners with friends while searching for the best Mexican Martini, birding, kayaking, and traveling. She’s finally getting to explore national parks both in the US and abroad. She often visits her sister and brother-in-law in Florida for beach trips and kayaking.
